I had an 11-level fusion at age 15 within a few weeks of my diagnosis because the degree of my curve was already in the high 50's. I didn't know anyone else who experienced the same thing until I became a medical professional myself. I unfortunately discovered my daughter's slight curve when she was just 6 years old. It was devastating to know she was going to go through what I had experienced. She wore a brace 23 hours a day for three years and then underwent a spinal fusion at age 13. With the advancement in medicine, she was able to fully recover and returned to being a three-season highschool athlete after just 6 months. She is so confident and has embraced her scar.
